About mark

After attending the University of Western Ontario for journalism for one year, I was rather sick of school. I began travelling the world, mostly Mexico, Central America and Korea. I will never forget sitting in my cockroach infested apartment in Seoul, playing a guitar for hours on end while I was supposed to be teaching English. The tide had turned and I knew what I had to do! I flew back to Ontario and spent the next four years earning a music degree from Mohawk College. Afterwards, I had my first crack at teaching professionally at Dean's Music and Avalon Music Academy.

I had found my niche, but was sick of the cold and headed west. After a short stint at Alloy Music in Langford, I made my way to Victoria and began teaching at Larsen Music and Gordie's Music in 2005. I have met some great musicians along the way and played many jazz gigs in duos and trios in the greater Victoria area. Larsen Music closed in the summer of 2016. This blessing in disguise prompted me to teaching privately at my home in Victoria on the days I was not at Gordie's Music. I have learned a thing or two about the guitar over the years, and I would like to teach them both to you.
